I grew up in Hertfordshire only ever wanting to be a doctor. I qualified in 1989 and completed GP vocational training. I joined my training practice in 1994 and still work there today.
I have a wide range of professional interests and consider myself to be a holistic GP. I am proud to be a generalist. I am opposed to many of the changes imposed on general practice. I believe that medicine is an art as well as a science and dislike following protocols, ticking boxes and jumping through hoops. Developing and maintaining relationships with my patients and their families over many years is, I believe, at the very heart of good general practice. Continuity of care is sadly under-rated these days.
Six years ago, frustrated by the direction general practice was taking, I began to consider my future. I still loved the time I spent in my consulting room with my patients, it was the other "stuff" that was beginning to get me down. A chance conversation with a patient led me to explore Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and to go on to train to Master Practitioner level. During that time my passion for coaching developed and I became an avid student of personal development. I obtained a formal coaching qualification, training with Curly Martin, best-selling author and top UK coach.
I continue to use my coaching skills in general practice but for reasons of probity never take on practice patients as coaching clients.
I live with my partner and our two sons. I love sport, particularly football and am an avid supporter of Watford FC. I am also a keen runner and completed the London Marathon in 2005, raising £4500 for the spinal injury charity Aspire.
I am passionate about inspiring people to be the very best they can be. I believe that life is for living and would describe myself as enthusiastic, motivated and eager for the next challenge.
